NEW FOR 2009

STONY BROOK OUTFITTERS – NEW COMBO HUNTS

Black Bear w/ Hounds & Moose Combo Hunt

Oct 11th through 17th (WMD zones 7-8-12&13 only)

This hunt is done during the overlap week of our bear hunt with hounds and the moose hunt. This combo hunt is booked as a bear hunt with hounds and can be changed to a combination hunt when and if you pull a tag. This means that you will not be required to put up any deposit for the moose hunt until you actually get drawn. The cost of this hunt is $2100 for the dog hunt plus a reduced price of $1600 for the moose hunt. If you have a sub-permitee (a second person who accompanies you on the hunt and can shoot the moose in place of the permit holder) the fee for this person is $2100 for the bear hunt (if they too want to hunt bear) plus $950 for the moose hunt.. A non-hunting companion fee is $650.

Moose & Whitetail Deer Combo Hunt

November 2nd through 28th (WMD zone 16 only)

This November hunt is new and offers the opportunity to harvest either a bull or a cow moose in prime moose country. The earlier in Nov the more chance that the Bulls MAY still be in the late part of the rut and the guide MAY be able to call one in. This is a six day privately guided on the ground – stalking hunt which provides the hunter the opportunity to combo this hunt with a deer hunt. The hunt would be booked as a regular 5 day guided deer hunt and can be changed to a combination hunt when and if you pull a tag. This means that you will not be required to put up any deposit for the moose hunt until you actually get drawn. If you do not pull a tag then the cost of your regular 5 day guided deer hunt would remain at $800. If you drew the permit - The cost of the 6 day combo hunt would be $2100 for the moose hunt plus a reduced price of $600 for the deer hunt. The total for the combo hunt would be $2700. If you have a sub-permitee (a second person who accompanies you on the hunt and can shoot the moose in place of the permit holder) the fee for this person is $950 for the moose hunt plus a reduced price of $600 for the deer hunt (if they too want to hunt deer). The combo total for the sub-permittee would be $1550. A non-hunting companion fee is $650.

Notice: Beginning in 2009, moose permit applications will only be accepted online. Paper applications will no longer be printed or mailed. The online application process will be available starting in early January of 2009

Moose permit winners who wish to swap their permit with another moose permit winner will need to do all their own work to identify and contact potential permit winners to swap with. If you are interested in obtaining a list of moose permit winners, please visit the following web site maintained by InforME at http://www.informe.org/moose/. after the June 2009 draw.

NORTH AMERICAN HUNTING CLUB APPROVED

Stony Brook has been an approved outfitter by the NAHC since 1997 and has consistently had more recommendation reports each year than any other guide or outfitter in Maine or New Brunswick.

A CUT ABOVE THE REST

We have been catering to bear, deer, moose and bobcat hunters since 1980.

We take pride in providing our rewarding, successful hunting experience. We take you to where the game is – no matter what the cost. Our bear stands are strategically located in prime bear territory. We scout out active scrapes and rubs for our deer hunters and keep a keen eye open for areas where the bull moose like to feed. We will travel wherever necessary to optimize the best snow conditions for our bobcat hunts.

HUNTER TO GUIDE RATIOS

Maine Hunts

Although there is no limit on the number of black bear hunters a guide can put out on stand - we choose to limit our hunter to guide ratio to 5 to 1. We reserve this same ratio for our white tail deer hunts. The moose hunt is a 1 to 1 ratio unless there is a sub-permitee, which raises that ratio to 2 to 1. The State of Maine has an established limit of 3 to 1 on black bear hound hunts but we personalize our hunt by limiting our ratio of 2 to 1. In addition, although the state has set no limit, we limit our bobcat hunts with dogs to this same 2 to 1 ratio.

New Brunswick

We abide by the established 3 to 1 ratio set by New Brunswick law on our spring black bear hunts.

Our self-imposed ratios ensure that we are able to enhance the hunting experience and make sure that the hunter is receiving the personalized service we are known for.

LICENSES / PERMITS

Stony Brook Outfitters sells you your licenses and permits right at the lodges. You do not have to go out to a store or worry about having to apply for a draw for your Black Bear, White Tail Deer, or Bobcat hunting licenses, as these are available right at Stony Brook Lodge when you arrive. Moose hunting licenses are an exception, as this hunt requires a Lottery draw controlled by the State of Maine. New Brunswick spring black bear hunting licenses are also available right at the lodge as well. Fishing licenses are also available at the same time.

New Brunswick requires all guns to be registered at the border for a fee of $25 Canadian funds.  We provide the forms necessary or you can go on-line and download them from http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/online-en_ligne/form-assistance/indiv_forms/909_e.asp
